Part of keeping my commitment to train for the 400 long course freestyle this year means repeating my 3 x 300 test set every 4 weeks. As I had kicked this off on New Year's Day and Monday morning is the only time this week I can make it down to the London Aquatic Centre ...

... I had to go for it, even though I was not feeling chipper after three previous days of workouts with intensity.
I did a relatively normal 1,800-meters of standard warmup sets and then went into the 3 x 300 on 4:30. The timing worked out perfectly as the lane had only two other swimmers on the first two and then only one on the last one, so my passing was minimal (e.g., passing all swimmers once on each 300).
I really thought I was going to be far slower than last time when I averaged 3:46.2, so was quite chuffed when the first one was 3:44.1
The second one hurt a bit more at 3:45.7
And then, maybe because I only had to pass one guy once and maybe I had actually held back a little on the first two, I threw down a 3:41.6 on the last one.
The sunshine matched my smile as I left the building...
... a ~7% improvement with a 3:43.8 average time!
