Spirits high, but legs not so in rapture

Long before I had any thoughts of actually getting a chance to compete again, my wife and I booked a Sunday Funday in Toronto yesterday:

  • TIFF's Secret Movie Club

  • Brunch with our second daughter (who lives ~2 hours from us, but less than one hour from Toronto)

  • Christmas shopping at the Eaton Centre

  • Pre-game drinks, again with our second daughter

  • Our first ever Toronto Raptors game live

Other than the fact that the movie Red Rocket should never have been made except for use by CIA agents for torture at undisclosed blacksite locations, it was an awesome day with great food, a win by the Raptors and great "chill time" with my wife and daughter. The only downside, at least for my swim-taper plans, is that I ended up walking over 12KM, so my legs were a litte toasted for this morning's swim at LA Fitness:


Warmup sets (1,200 yards)

  • 1 x 400: IM kick-drill by 25

  • 4 x 100: on 1:20, free swim with snorkel, descend from 1:11 to 1:04

  • 6 x 50: on 1:00, #1 and #6 cruise, #2 to #5 IM order build (0:32, 0:33, 0:39, 0:30)

Racing Simulation (1,500 yards)

  • Round 1 - 50 fly

    • 1 x 50: fly fast, was 0:30, on 1:00

    • 6 x 50: active recovery on 0:40, 0:45, 0:50, 0:55, 1:00, 1:15

  • Round 2 - 100 free

    • 1 x 100: free fast, was 1:00, on 2:00

    • 6 x 50: active recovery on 0:40, 0:45, 0:50, 0:55, 1:00, 1:15

  • Round 3 - 50 breast

    • 1 x 50: breast fast, was 0:37, on 1:00

    • 6 x 50: active recovery on 0:40, 0:45, 0:50, 0:55, 1:00, 1:15

  • Round 4 - 100 IM

    • 1 x 100: IM fast, was 1:07, on 2:00

    • 6 x 50: active recovery on 0:40, 0:45, 0:50, 0:55, 1:00, 1:15

Given the state of my legs, the times weren't all that bad ... and I don't need to feel good yet. Taking tomorrow out of the pool to travel down to DC for some business meetings before I then head up to Boston on Friday. Getting excited!
