Now that I have discovered the lovely West Reservoir Open Water Centre in Hackney, London, I feel like I need to get there every chance I can. It's a little tight with the late 7am opening time (I'd prefer 6am) to make it "work with work," but I managed to structure my professional life on Tuesday so that my first ~hour of calls starting at 8am didn't require me to be on video, meaning I was able to get in a ~41/42 minute 2,800 meter swim, dry off and then take my calls, sitting on the dock of the reservoir.
And probably because I just watched the Weird Al Yankovic parody biopic, with apologies to and no intended copyright infringement of Mr. Redding, I hummed this tune on the tube ride home, injecting the positivity I always have after a glorious morning swim:
Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be workin' when the evenin' come
Watching the caps swim in
And then I watch 'em float away again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the swimmers roll away
I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Lovin' time
I left my home in Canada
Headed for London UK
I've family and friends to live for
Look like somethin's gonna come my way
So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watching the swimmers roll away
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Lovin' time
Look like somethin's gonna change
Everything always does change
I can do what ten other people do
So I guess I'll continue to change, yes
Sittin' here resting my bones
And this happiness won't leave me alone
It's thirty five hundred miles I roamed
Just to make London my home
Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the swimmers roll away
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Lovin' time
This pre-swim, empty course video, I think, captures a little of the joy I have with this place, but I exited even happier than when I started, which is par for the course for me whenever I swim:
