How does one honor both a love of mathematics and a love of swimming?

By taking one of the most famous theorems ...

trying to re-create that through a lake swim ...

Then checking the math to show how close to perfect my right triangle was:

  • My hypotenuse, c, should be the square root of the sum of the squares of a and b

  • c = SQRT (500 x 500 + 500 x 500) = SQRT (50000) = 707m

While I was about ~26 meters from a perfect right triangle, I was 100% for a perfect morning swim!
