trying to re-create that through a lake swim ...

Then checking the math to show how close to perfect my right triangle was:
My hypotenuse, c, should be the square root of the sum of the squares of a and b
c = SQRT (500 x 500 + 500 x 500) = SQRT (50000) = 707m
While I was about ~26 meters from a perfect right triangle, I was 100% for a perfect morning swim!
