As it had been over three weeks since I added a new pool, I was itching to get back out there as a Pool Tourist. I don't know how I've missed coming across the Clissold Leisure Centre before, as it must have been on both the Swimmers' Guide (now Places2Swim) online directory and the Better organization's list of pools for awhile, but last night seemed to be the first time I had seen it. The promise of an eight-lane, two-meter uniform depth 25-meter pool got me to arrange my morning to be there for a brief, 1,750 meter swim before work today:
In addition to the gorgeous pool, the ~20 minute walk from the Manor House tube station, after a bit of normal London urbanity, took me through the beautiful Clissold Park, which was chock-full of runners and dog walkers, even on a rainy Wednesday morning, and included some beautiful period buildings, ending with this nice church:
While I didn't walk through the whole centre, it appeared to have a nice range of exercise areas, including a set of outdoor treadmills under the overhang of the exterior (hard to see on picture #1 below). The only thing I found odd was the 20p locker fee, as virtually every other Better centre uses a pound. My 'change canister' saved me as I had precisely one 20p coin.
