My company had a big awards trip planned for the Dominican Republic at the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana resort over this past weekend. This was a huge event that many people in the company had been anxiously awaiting as it had not happened since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I admit that I was a little less than excited to go, as it meant me missing finally seeing Hamilton in Ottawa, a gift we had given our youngest daughter for Christmas of 2019 ... which also ended up getting rescheduled multiple times thanks to COVID-19. I really wanted to be in both places this weekend, but, given my role in the company, I had to be in the Dominican Republic.
I was also less than excited as it was not apparent where I would be able to get some pool training in! Imagine my surprise and utter delight when I realized that at both the Zilara adults-only resort ...
... and the Ziva family-friendly resort next door ...
... had generously marked out two lanes in parts of the infinity pools, with flat walls on each end. Even more amazing was that, based upon working out in both pools, each of them seemed to either be exactly 25 meters long, or close enough that it didn't matter. I went down each of Friday and Saturday mornings early, swimming between about 6:15am and 7:30am, having the pools to myself and enjoying fabulous 3,750 meter and 3,425 meter workouts.
These became pools #535 (Zilara) and #536 (Ziva), and these resorts are certainly "swimmer approved." I capped off my last morning here on Sunday with a seaweedy 2,100 meter in the ocean, completing a great weekend of swimming the Dominican!
