Aside from getting in my actual swim in the morning when I'm traveling, my next favorite part of the experience is walking to a pool, whenever possible. Most cities are pretty darn quiet in the 5am to 7am timeframe when I'm walking, so I not only get a bit of a meditative experience, I can take in the sights while not looking like a complete tourist. On my walk this Tuesday morning to San Francisco's Joe Dimmagio / North Beach pool, I stumbled across a couple of interesting street signs, one whimsical and one that left me wondering what the fine citizens of California have against the Scots:
